How To Know All Truth (brief summary)

A woman in the congregation did record the sermon, and I am waiting to hear from her about posting it on the website.  Until then, I am going to briefly explore the most important point of the sermon.

Don't Misuse and Abuse Silent Prayer

The person who goes "into the silence" hoping that they will "come out" with a healed body, a job offer, or any type of improvement is abusing silent prayer.

I stopped counting the times someone has said to me, "I went into the silence faithfully and I still wasn't healed." God is not in the fix and repair business. God is not in the healing business.

Wait! Don't leave. Let me explain. When silent prayer is rightly focused, your motive is to experience revelation. It is (as I said in the sermon) to learn a lesson in Truth from the Spirit of Truth that dwells in (as) you. In right-focused prayer, it is revealed that there is no problem to be solved, no body to be healed, and no broken life to fix. Right-focused prayer reveals that I (God) Am All.

This revelation appears as a healing, but is nothing more that God more fully revealed.

I am never surprised to hear someone say that they faithfully prayed and was not healed. Why? You start wrong, you end wrong. The motive was wrong from the start. What would surprise me is if someone said, "Rev. day in and day out I went into the silence with only one motive and that was to know more about God than I seem to know right now. After weeks of praying and listening I learned nothing."

Strange as it may seem, no one has ever said this to me.

A Great Testimony

Sometimes the icing on the cake is the best part of the cake.  Sunday's service was topped off by a powerful testimony from Dana. Everyone was moved and inspired.

What I especially liked was how Dana stated the problem, and with enough detailed, shared exactly what she did spiritually for the wonderful outcome.

Which Door Is Which

If you have not already attended service at our new location, it's easy to try several wrong doors before you get the right door. Here's help:

  • The doors are numbered.  Door #4 is the door you want.
  • You will see a black Prius parked in front of the door (fire lane)

No Hopeless Situation--Sermon Available

One thing I forgot to mention in my telling the story of Jesus healing the man born blind.  When Christ told the disciples, "Neither this man has sinned nor his parents," He was looking at the divinity (reality) of their identity.

When Paul proclaims that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, he is looking at the illusion of our seeming humanity with all its glaring flaws.

Note: Each sermon now is preceded by the inspirational reading that's a part of our Sunday service.

The Money Sermon--Enjoy Listening

True confession.  The sermon did not take on Sunday.  But the content was too good to let go.  So I redid the sermon at home.  Might have been a good thing.  I cut out all the unnecessary buffoonery (playful banter with the congregation) and delivered a straight sermon.  The sermon is ready for your listening enjoyment.

WHY THE CHURHES FAIL AND WHAT HAS TO CHANGE

Church and Crime On Every Corner

In just about every urban area in the United States, there is a church on every corner. That’s a whole lot of preaching about God’s power, and a whole lot of praying of the Lord’s Prayer. And on these same corners, after the sun goes down, drugs are bought and sold, and other crimes are plotted.

Let’s get off the corner and into the churches. Year after year, the same huddled masses of hurting, sick, poor and unhappy people praise the Lord with strong voice, but they never seem to get well, prosperous or happy. In a nutshell: THE CHURCHES DON’T SEEM TO BE DOING MUCH GOOD AT ALL.

Sitting In The Silence And Silently Suffering

The metaphysical (spiritually focused) churches are no better. Folk have been sitting in the silence, saying affirmations, making Treasure Maps for years; yet they seem no more enlightened or prosperous than the day they stepped into the church. WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

Here’s the answer in a nutshell: YOU START WRONG, YOU END WRONG.

Let’s leave aside the traditional church that starts and stays with the premise that their congregation members are sinners from the womb to the tomb. Let’s go straight to the churches that claim to have a metaphysical and/or spiritual focus.

The Problem Starts At The Pulpit

Here’s the typical scenario. The preacher stands at the pulpit with unquestioned sincerity. She preaches a heartfelt sermon-lesson to hopefully enlighten, teach, and awaken her congregation to their "inner splendor." She sees herself as an able guide helping each member navigate the winding road to God realization. SHE (for the most part) CANT SUCCEED. SHE (for the most part) WONT SUCCEED. Why? YOU START WRONG, YOU END WRONG.

Reader, you see what’s happening here. The able (perhaps disabled) pastor looks out at all the smiling eager faces and sees, not ALREADY ILLUMINED God (Christ) Identities, but rather the illusion of unenlightened and un-illumined human identities trying to become enlightened. Identities that need to be instructed in Truth.  She sees, and believes that if these unenlightened ones do the "right stuff," they can possibly BECOME enlightened identities some time in the distant future. She even believes that one day she herself will become fully enlightened.

Keep Playing In The Mud You Stay Muddy

In any area of living (church life included), if you start with the illusion and try to do something with and about the illusion, all you are going to end up with is more illusion. In other words all 52 sermons will be a complete waste of time.

This is why you seem to see folk sitting in the Unity churches for 999 years just as sick, broke and unhappy as the day they stepped into the church. The minister’s approach to ministry did not help.

The Solution

To be effective, the churches have to start with Truth, and STAY with Truth. Regardless of the appearance, the preacher must preach sermons to a church of completely illumined and enlightened God Identities. The sermons cannot be intended to enlighten, but rather to celebrate. The services should be God parties– celebrations of God’s Allness already present as each and every member and visitor to the church.

Every sermon must be directed to the very soul of the individual. Here, the minister will experience no resistance to his messages of the Absolute.

My Pledge To Unity In Silver Spring

From this day forward, I intend to be more mindful than ever of how I preach, teach and write. I pledge to be mindful that every Identity in the congregation is ALREADY COMPLETELY ILLUMINED AND ENLIGHTENED. They "get It," because the ARE IT. My sermons, and our services are merely celebrations of God’s Absolute Allness. Reader, I am conscious of this being your reality as you read this post.

I intend (very soon) for Unity In Silver Spring to be the fulfillment of what a church really should be.

No Philosophy Preached At Unity In Silver Spring

After our "Love Feast,"  someone asked me, "Have you ever experienced that type of love?"  "That type" being the Love mentioned in the sermon.

After hesitating, I replied to the questioner, "I have experienced BEING this type of Love."

I thought people in our church family knew that I don't preach anything I have not personally experienced ...to some degree.    Philosophy doesn't cut it when the heart, body and/or pocketbook is hurting.  I will leave philosophy to the philosophers.  At Unity, I preach what works.

Your Role In Your Child's Spiritual Development

Yes, the sermon is ready for your listening pleasure, but let me get my rant in.  I was tempted to title this  "How To Raise An Educated Fool," because of the emphasis parents put on academic education over spiritual education.  What you end up with are children with academic degress, but no degree of happiness, fulfillment, or direction in life.

I cant remember what I said in the sermon, but when I hear parents say, I don't want to force spiritual education on my children," my eyes cross.  Why?  Because they force academic education on their children.  There can be a balance of emphasis.  And if you want parenthood to be less traumatic and dramatic, there has to be a balance. RANT OVER.

HEAR THE SERMON.

How To Pray For Others

Please Read This First

The last part of this sermon, I talk about the "End of Prayer."  How to know when you can stop praying.  I mention three things (You'll have to listen to the sermon to find out what they are).  Understand that all three must be in place before you are finished with praying.  If just one is in place, you will be looking "out there" to confirm the so-called healing.  When all three are in place, you will know that there is nothing to heal.

Do you recall the story of Unity's co-founder Myrtle Fillmore.  Diagnosed with an incurable disease she had a revelation that "I am a child of God I cant be sick."  She was not healed immediately, but it didn't matter.  Sickness was no longer her reality and this truth had to play itself out.   Click on the link below and listen.
